Friday in Class

Students participate in Art Walk Judging
1st & 5th - Journal Art Walk & Refreshments.  Our journals turned out great.  I'll post some pictures of the activity. 2nd period was not able to participate because of the speaker schedule; we will postpone until Monday.
  • 1st & 2nd - read Student Diary Entry #1 from The Freedom Writers Diary and answered these questions:  a. Have you ever felt labeled or stereotyped?  Describe the situation.  b.  Why do people stereotype others?  c.  Which group of students described in the diary entry would you have fit into?
4th and 6th period Speech:  Answer questions on the board:
1.  When we listen as someone shares problems, hopes and dreams without offereing advice or opinions, it is called _______________listening.
2.  If you buy a CD to enjoy, you use _________________listening; however, if you use it to write a review of the CD for the school newspaper, you use ________________ listening.
3.  ______________ is the kind of listening that enables you to hear the dismissal bell over a noisy classroom.
4.  IF we allow the sender to do all of the work, we are only ____________________.  This is also called ___________ listening.
5.  If we are trying energetically to make sense of the sounds and words we hear, we are using ______________ listening.

Speech classes discussed listening for propaganda or rhetorical devices in speeches.  Also we began a group activity - Infomercials utilizing one of the propaganda devices discussed in class.
