English 9H- 1st block

Turn to p. 415 in the Grammar Book - Business Letters
Writing Prompt: You are Captain Arthur Keller and you are composing a letter to Dr. Chisholm (give him a first name). Your letter is about getting help for your daughter. Follow the modified block style on p. 415. Your letter should have at least two paragraphs. The return address is Ivy Green, Tuscumbia, AL (make up a zip code and a date).
Discussed Personal Narratives Again - Due Date Feb. 16, 2010; Read through the beginning of Act II in The Miracle Worker

Speech (2nd block)
p. 202 of Speech Book

Define 1,2,4,6, 7
Finished Tabloid presentations; finished impromptu speeches; Viewed americanrhetoric.com website and completed the Dennis Rodman "truth" in reporting activity.  Students completed the article using metaphoric and rhetorical devices.

Daily Work - Work on Attention Grabbers.  Each student provided three different types of attention getters for the same topic (story, making reference, rhetorical questions); Group Work - each group selected a topic and attention getter type and wrote a complete introduction for the topic.  Groups presented to the class.  Finally, class read and discussed truth in speeches and slanting speech by using metaphoric and rhetorical devices.
