English 9 Honors Feb. 2, 2010

Write 3 Sentences about GroundHogs or Ground Hog Day. Underline the main verb in each sentence.At the end of the sentence, write the verb tense, and Action or linking. If action, write transitive or intransitive.
Examples:
1. The groundhog in Pennsylvania who became famous in
the movie is Punxsutawney Phil. (present tense, linking)
2. We celebrate Groundhog day on February 2 each year. (present tense, action, transitive)
Anticipatory Activity with the class in preparation for reading The Miracle Worker.  Students were blindfolded and had to use their senses of taste, touch, and smell to identify objects.
Started reading the drama The Miracle Worker by William Gibson.

Speech - 2nd BlockSpeech Bellringer
1. Why do you think research is a component of effective speech writing?
2. What advantages does technology provide in research?
3. What are the disadvantages of technology in research?
Daily Work - Powerpoint on Research; discussed role of tabloids as ineffective periodicals.  Group activity - develop tabloid headlines and intros and present to class in news media style.
 
Adv. Speech - 3rd block
Bell Ringer:  List the five criteria for evaluating web pages.
Daily Work  finished survey presentations; Powerpoint on Organizing a Speech
