1/12/2010  1st block bellringer - notes on Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns;
Both end in -self

·yourself yourselves
·himself, herself, itself themselves

 

Reflexive pronouns reflect back to a noun or pronoun earlier in the sentence. Adds information to the sentence. Usually direct object following verb.
ex. You outdid yourself on cleaning out the car.
The players prepared themselves for the title game.
Intensive pronouns add emphasis to another noun or pronoun.
Ex. Sandra herself completed the assignment.
The team itself celebrated after the game.

We talked yesterday about perceptions, and that sometimes we have inaccurate perceptions of others. The media portrays most celebrities as looking beautiful and having beautiful lives. This perception is not always true. As humans, many of them have problems too.
1. List 3 celebrities whose lives, as it has been discovered, are not perfect.
2. Why do you think that socially we have a difficult time being ourselves?

3rd block - group activity and presentation on the 10 planks of Confidence (Content, Organization, Notes, Friendliness, Impression, Dedication, Empathy, Newness, Conviction, Enthusiasm)
