Writing Prompt November 13, 2009

Consider that we live in a free country where we can vote as desired, practice religion in our way, pursue education, and choose from a variety of career options. List three things that you are free to do below.

Now using those three things, write a paragraph about what you would be willing to do to remain free.

  • Example: spouse, career, family
Imagine living in a country that tells you how many children you can have. There are civilized countries in the world that limit the number of children, and whose cultures demand that parents select a future spouse for you. I am so blessed to live in the United States where our options are only limited by our imagination. I would fight laws designed to restrict those rights. I would escape with my family to another place, if my rights to raise them were challenged, even if it meant living without a home, car, and basic necessities. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I would be willing to give up the finer things in life to live freely with my family.

Friday - Mr. Rose showed the movie, The Great Debators, to all classes.  You were supposed to submit a one-page essay about the movie.
