Friday in English

Order of Subject and Predicate

Inverted Order p. 502. Sometimes a sentence is written in inverted order, with the predicate before the subject. This is usually to add emphasis to the subject.

Rewrite sentences 2-5 in exercise 12 so the subject comes before the predicate. Then underline the simple subject once and the simple predicate twice.
1. The coral snake crawled from under a rock.

Exercise 13, p. 503. Identify the complete subject and complete predicate in sentences 3-5, by writing the sentences, drawing a line between the subject and predicate and labeling it with an S or P.
Example P
9. Look at this elaborately carved ceremonial mask.
S (you)
