Thursday

1st block - Bell ringer: p. 488 Grammar Book Add prepositions to the sentences in Ex. 11.  Write sentences 2-4 with a preposition
Example. Because temperatures had remained below the freezing point, Fingerbone Lake had turned to solid ice.

Conjunctions - Write sentences 2-4 Ex. 12 Add the conjunction asked for.
Example. Wherever you go in Idaho, you are likely to find spectacular scenery.
Daily:  Finish watching movie and answer questions I distributed yesterday.  Those attending play - respond to the following in paragraph form:
1.  Why is Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet still relevant today?
2.  Why do you think Romeo did not kill Paris in the movie but he did in the play?  Also, Romeo's mother didn't die in the movie?  Explain why there might be a difference in the two.

2nd block - no bell ringer.  Finish watching Footloose, and apply the planks of Confidence to Ren's speech to the town council.

3rd block - no bellringer.  Finish watching Footloose and answer the questions below:  Write the following questions, and answer them as you are watching the movie and directly afterwards. Appeals: Logical, Emotional, Personal (ethical)
1. What is the status quo?
2. What is the proposition Ren argues?
3. What arguments does he use to support his position?
4. The reverend argues the negative side, for maintaining the status quo. What points does he make against the affirmative?
5. What type of appeal does Ren use in his argument? Explain.
6. What type of appeal does the negative side use in the argument?
7. Does the resolution pass on the proposition?
8. What qualities of effective speaking did Ren utilize?
9. What type of appeal does Ren later use with the Reverend, and the Reverend also uses with his church members?
10. What is another thing that may have impacted the Reverend’s change of mind?
Finish presenting editorial speeches;  Assign next speech project due on Tuesday.
